Clint Dennison
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Clint Dennison graduated from Plateau Valley High School in 1985. Following his graduation, he served six years in the United States Air Force for the Department of Intelligence. He then pursued his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Colorado State University (CSU), graduating in 2000, where he was honored with the Large Animal Surgical Proficiency Award. This distinction led to a one-year surgical internship at CSU. After completing his internship, Dr. Dennison spent two years working at an equine facility in Oregon before establishing his own equine referral hospital in Temecula, California. Over the next five years, he specialized in equine emergency medicine, internal medicine, surgery, and reproductive care. During his time in California, he also served as an associate professor at Western Veterinary College in Pomona and earned his certification in equine dentistry in 2004. In 2009, Dr. Dennison and his family returned to his hometown of Collbran, Colorado, where he purchased his childhood home from his parents and opened Plateau Valley Animal Hospital (PVAH). The clinic began as a small operation based out of his home, moved into the former human clinic in Collbran in 2015, and later relocated to “the cabin” in 2018. Recognizing a demand for affordable, high-quality veterinary care in Garfield County, Dr. Dennison opened a satellite clinic in Silt in 2019, which moved to its current location in Rifle in 2024. Dr. Dennison enjoys applying his medical knowledge and military training in the field and through hands-on application. He has participated in combat trauma training programs for both the military and law enforcement and served as an instructor for outfitting and guiding services, teaching former military personnel equine first aid. Additionally, he has served as the veterinarian for both the Colorado State Fair and the Mesa County Fair livestock events and volunteered as a mentor and board member for local FFA and 4H programs. Raised in a musical family, Dr. Dennison sang and played guitar at local venues throughout high school, and he and his brothers performed together in a band called “Dennison County Line” until 2020. More recently, Dr. Dennison and his wife, Pam, have built several small vacation rentals in the Collbran area. When time allows, they enjoy traveling and spending time with their children.

Allysen Perkins
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Allysen Perkins, a Northern California native, graduated from Del Oro High School in 2017. During high school, she was active in FFA—serving as chapter president—and participated in livestock shows and rodeo competitions. These early experiences with agriculture and large animals led her to Colorado State University (CSU), where she earned a bachelor's degree in Animal Science with a minor in Biomedical Science in 2021 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2025. Dr. Perkins has always had a passion for large animals, which is reflected in her academic and extracurricular focus. While at CSU, she served as president of the Small Ruminant Practitioners Club and was active in the Student Chapter of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, participating on the board, quiz bowl team, and palpation team. Her elective coursework also emphasized large animal care, including equine lameness, equine medicine, and ruminant medicine. Although large animals are her passion, Dr. Perkins is also drawn to small animal medicine. She appreciates the unique challenges each case presents, the continuity of treatment, and the opportunities to develop meaningful connections with her clients. Dr. Perkins met her husband, Reid, while attending Colorado State University, and the couple married in 2023. They live in Mesa, CO, where they enjoy riding horses and training their six dogs—five of them Idaho Shags. Dr. Perkins’s decision to join Plateau Valley Animal Hospital was a purposeful one. She knew she wanted to work in a rural mixed-animal practice, and her partnership with Dr. Dennison has been in the works since her very first semester of vet school. Dr. Perkins is eager to participate in events throughout the Plateau Valley and in Garfield County, including mentoring high school veterinary science teams, hosting client education classes, and providing veterinary care at county fairs and local rodeos. When asked why she chose Western Colorado, she simply said, “I can’t picture myself being anywhere else.”

Our History
The Collbran Clinic when we purchased it.
Plateau Valley Animal Hospital began in 2009, when Dr. Clint Dennison returned to his hometown of Collbran, Colorado, to raise his family with the same rural, western ranch values and lifestyle he grew up with. Dr. Dennison left a thriving equine referral practice in California to start his first “clinic” — then called Plateau Valley Veterinary Clinic — which was located in a humble shed on his home property. The change was drastic, but Dr. Dennison embraced the challenge of a mixed-animal rural practice. It didn’t take him long to adapt to — and love — working with his neighbors and friends to care for a wide variety of species, each with unique needs, in diverse environments. In 2015, the practice relocated to the former human clinic in Collbran, and by 2018 it had settled into its current home: a cozy log cabin just outside of town on Highway 330. Today, this branch continues to serve the residents of the Plateau Valley, with our doctors and staff alternating between the Collbran and Rifle clinics.
The Silt Off-Grid Clinic
The Rifle branch of PVAH began in 2019 when Dr. Dennison treated a lame horse in Silt. That farm call introduced him to a local groomer and veterinary technician who shared his passion for animal care. Recognizing a need for veterinary services in Garfield County, Dr. Dennison rented space in her grooming room, and she managed the Silt clinic. About the same time, following the same model, Dr. Dennison also opened a small satellite clinic in Cedaredge. For about two years, he traveled to Silt twice a week, visited Cedaredge on Fridays, and handled appointments and emergencies in Collbran on the remaining days. The Cedaredge clinic eventually closed to allow for further expansion in Silt, and in January of 2024, the growing Silt practice moved into an off-grid tiny house on the same grooming property. When the current Rifle building became available in July 2024, the clinic relocated there, providing more space and the convenience of electricity.
In June of 2025, we welcomed a second veterinarian, Dr. Perkins, to the practice. Dr. Perkins brings a fresh perspective, contagious enthusiasm, and a heartfelt love for people and their animals. Her modern, evidence-based approach to veterinary medicine complements Dr. Dennison’s practical, experience-driven style, creating a well-rounded team that nicely blends tradition with innovation.

In December of 2025, we also began enlisting local relief veterinarians to help out in Rifle. Thanks to the continued support of our clients, we’ve been working hard to keep up with our growing client base, and these relief veterinarians have played an important role in that effort. Looking ahead, our goals include adding another full-time veterinarian, expanding our hours in Collbran, and offering 24/7 emergency care in Rifle to better serve our communities — and who knows, maybe one of our skilled relief vets will join us permanently to help make it happen!
What began as a very small, rural, home-grown, family operation has become a two-town, two (plus) doctor, and nearly twelve-employee practice — but our philosophy hasn’t changed. Dr. Dennison has always believed that veterinary care should be personal, honest, and affordable. His goal has never been to pack the schedule or chase profits but to provide a valuable service, build lasting relationships with clients, and offer high-quality care at fair, accessible prices. He’s also been intentional about choosing team members who share that same philosophy.
At Plateau Valley Animal Hospital, we’re dedicated to providing honest, small-town care that always puts people and their animals first. We’re deeply grateful for our clients’ ongoing support and patience as we continue to grow while remaining true to our mission of keeping care affordable, relationships genuine, and preserving the hometown feel that, we hope, makes PVAH truly unique.
